When reading the title, I'm sure many of you thought, "How is it greater? Both equal a dollar." But, I have to ask you: would you rather carry around 100 pennies or 4 quarters? Would you rather count out 100 pennies when paying for something or 4 quarters? The answer is obvious. Why carry around so many pennies when you have enough money to exchange it for coins of more value. And by now, you guys are wondering, "Ok, but who cares about money and why am I reading an entire blog post about lugging around a bunch of change?" Well, let me enlighten you: this post, in fact, is not about money. It's about... take a guess...
Now, now. If you don't see the comparison, yet, I'll help you out. Why would I want 100 acquaintances when I can have 4 best friends? Think about the people you keep around. Did you by chance give up all your best friends and the people who care about you most for popularity? Well, that's how it happens in the movies at least. We've seen it in The Princess Diaries and Mean Girls, and those are just a couple I could name. In real life, it's not quite so dramatic. But, recently I've seen it in real life. No, not me, sorry but I've got no tea to spill there. But, it is someone I'd like to think I am close with, although how could I really know when said person has chosen 100 pennies over 4 quarters. Am I just another penny in his or her eyes?
People think that it's bad to only have a couple friends, but I think that makes the friendships more meaningful. So what, if you don't have someone to hang out with every second of every day. That's not a bad thing. Sometimes, when you don't have time to yourself, you become overwhelmed. So, when you're by yourself: binge a show, listen to a vinyl, light up a candle or incense, or meditate. Whatever it takes for you to be zen. Then, when you hang out with your friends, you don't have to worry about which one you forgot to tell your latest life occurrences to. You don't have to worry about hanging out with ALL your friends so some don't feel neglected. And, you don't have to worry about which ones you can trust or not. Because acquaintances are easy to find, but good friends aren't. So don't let the good ones slip through your fingers. Keep them in a tiny little piggy bank that you can hold close to your heart.
Much love from hails ;)
